Victim Support Funds Gives Refugee Commission N36m-Worth Palliatives for IDPs
The National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) has received Victim Support Funds (VSF) palliatives worth N36 million (thirty six million naira) for disbursement to IDPs across the country.
The presentation of the items took place at Commission’s office in Abuja, on Wednesday, according to information provided by the commission;s spokesman, Sadiq Abdullateef.
Speaking during the presentation, Adullateef said, the federal commissioner of NCFRMI, Basheer Garba Mohammed said the commission will ensure that the items get to these vulnerable Nigerians who need them.
The commissioner, who was represented by the deputy director, IDPs of the commission, Hajiya Fatima Mamman Daura, further appealed to VSF for more support as the commission is struggling with funding of a big mandate with a lean budget, Abdullateef explained.
“We are trying to shift away from just giving out handouts to the displaced persons to finding durable solutions for them”.
“We hereby wish to urge you to support the commission in our efforts to provide a lasting means of livelihood for them through our resettlement cities project, project reliance and the education learning centres”, the spokesman quoted him to have said.
he spokesman also said the the VSF chairperson of the COVID-19 Task Force Committee, Toyosi Akinrele commended the commission in its efforts to give succour to the displaced persons in the country and pledged to continue to support the commission in that regard.
According to the spokesman, the items received are; 1258 10kg of rice, 1258 10kg of beans, 1258 10kg of maize, 1258 4 liters of vegetable oil, 1258 2kg of salts, 10928 face masks, 10, 000 sanitizers, 250 hygiene kits and 500 blankets for children.
