Wilder Finally Openly Concedes He Lose Squarely, Hails Fury

Deontay Wilder has finally openly congratulated Tyson Fury after the Brit’s famous heavyweight victory in Las Vegas Saturday night.

In a lengthy statement posted to his personal Twitter account, Wilder praised Fury, in stark contrast to his behaviour immediately after the bout.

Wilder was accused of refusing to shake Fury’s hand after the 33-year-old won the fight with a devastating 11th round knockout.

In what was an all-time heavyweight classic, hard-hitting Alabama-native even managed to put his opposite number on the canvas in the fourth round, only for the fight to swing back in Fury’s favour later on.

However, five days after the epic contest, the 35-year-old has now given his perspective on what transpired at the T Mobile Arena in Vegas.

Wilder wrote on Twitter: “Wow, what a hell of a night!”

“I would like to first and foremost thank God for allowing me to give the world another part of me that’s driven with passion and determination.

“I would like to thank my team and my fans for sticking by my side through this long process.

“We didn’t get the win but a wise man once said the victories are within the lessons. I’ve learned that sometimes you have to lose to win.

“Although, I wanted the win I enjoyed seeing the fans win even more.

“Hopefully, I proved that I am a true warrior and a true king in this sport.”

As well as reflecting upon his own performance, Wilder was also more complimentary of his long-standing rival than we are perhaps used to seeing.

“Hopefully, WE proved that no matter how hard you get hit with trials and tribulations you can always pick yourself up to live and fight again for what you believe in,” Wilder added.

“Last but not least I would like to congratulate Tyson Fury for his victory and thank you for the great historical memories that will last forever.”

While Fury is now expected to defend his WBA world title belt against his mandatory challenger in Dillian Whyte, the next step for Wilder could not be immediately predicted.
