Borno enforces ban on street hawking, other illegal activities
The Borno State Urban Planning and Development Board has implemented a ban on street hawking and various other illegal activities within the Maiduguri metropolis.
This decision was announced by the General Manager of the board, Limán Mustapha, in a statement issued on a Friday.
The ban is in accordance with the Borno State Urban Planning and Development Law of 2002, which aims to regulate urban development and maintain order in public spaces.

The specific activities that have been prohibited include street hawking, tricycle operations, generator mechanics.

In addition to these prohibitions, the board has outlined several other restrictions aimed at maintaining public order. Some of them include activities on pedestrian walkways, junctions, and roundabouts are not permitted.
Also, the Borno State government banned the sale of engine oil on road reservations, while dumping sand or construction materials on roads was prohibited. Mixing cement on roadways is not allowed, while construction of boreholes adjacent to roads was also forbidden.
Enforcement measures
Mustapha emphasized that those affected by this ban must vacate their occupied sites immediately. He stated that failure to comply would result in arrests and prosecution under the law. This enforcement measure is intended to ensure a clean, safe, and organized urban environment throughout Maiduguri and other regions within Borno State.
Residents and business owners have been urged to adhere to these regulations to avoid legal repercussions.
