Dangote launches new locally assembled Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria

Dangote Peugeot Automobiles Nigeria Limited (DPAN) begun its operations with the local assembly of the Peugeot 301 at its state-of-the-art assembly plant located in Kaduna.

This initiative was part of a broader strategy to enhance local vehicle production and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s auto industry.

DPAN is a significant player in the Nigerian automotive industry, having been established as the official manufacturer and marketer of Peugeot vehicles in Nigeria.

The journey for Dangote in the automotive sector began in 2016 when he acquired a majority stake in Peugeot Automobile Nigeria alongside the Kaduna State Government and the Bank of Industry.

By securing a license for an assembly plant by 2017, Dangote laid down a foundation for local manufacturing. In 2022, DPAN officially commenced operations at its Greenfield Ultima Assembly Plant in Kaduna, which has a daily production capacity of up to 120 vehicles.

DPAN operates as a joint venture with Stellantis Group and has collaborated with both Kano and Kaduna state governments. This partnership aims to bolster local manufacturing capabilities while creating job opportunities within the region.

In addition to passenger vehicles, Dangote has expanded into commercial vehicle production through his establishment of Dangote Sinotruk West Africa Ltd (DSWAL) CKD plant located in Lagos. This facility focuses on assembling heavy-duty, medium, and light trucks with an annual production capacity reaching up to 10,000 units while generating approximately 3,000 jobs.
