ECWA 3-DAY NATIONAL PRAYER: Kano DCC concerned members insist on accountability, biblical leadership, rule of law
PRESS RELEASE BY CONCERNED MEMBERS OF ECWA KANO DCC
RE: NEEDLESS AND MISLEADING CALL FOR ECWA 3DAY NATIONAL PRAYER AND FASTING, GOD CANNOT BE MOCKED, A CALL TO UPHOLD TRUTH, JUSTICE, AND BIBLICAL LEADERSHIP IN ECWA
PREAMBLE
You will recall, We, a throng of Concerned Members of ECWA Kano DCC, issued a statement on the 12th May 2025, with heavy hearts but unshaken conviction, bound by love for Christ, loyalty to ECWA, and commitment to righteousness, we raised serious concerns regarding the unilateral actions taken by certain leadership elements within ECWA, particularly the move to create a new District Church Council (DCC) out of the existing Kano DCC, only for our attention to be drawn to a call for National prayer and fasting with specific mention of key DCCs which includes Kano and Bauchi.
As long as our God is a God of Justice and Truth, we shall not remain silent looking at how ECWA Leadership under Rev Dr. Job Ayuba Bagat (ECWA President); promoting deception, impunity, and disregard for laws and Scripture take root within the leadership culture of our church. More worrisome, is the needless call for National 3 days prayer and fasting, because of issues and situations created by the same leadership, which should be handled by men but does not require prayers and fasting. To this end, a call for national prayer and fasting by ECWA Leadership is rather misleading and meant to divert the attention of ECWA Members and the general public.

For the purpose of information, putting records straight, and to save the church from being misled by the Cabal that has hijacked the Church (ECWA); You will recall recently, we peacefully traveled to the ECWA Headquarters in Jos to present heartfelt concerns about:
-Violations of the ECWA Constitution and Bye-Laws,
-Disregard for the Nigerian Constitution that protects religious institutions,
-Clear disobedience to a valid court order instructing all parties to maintain the status quo until judgment is delivered; since the impunity, disregard to ECWA Policy documents and the Bible actions are unbecoming of ECWA spirit, culture and tradition.
Unfortunately, we were denied even the basic courtesy of being heard. Security officials blocked us from entering ECWA Headquarters while the ECWA Executives, present in their offices, refused to receive us.
It’s with a heavy heart and deep Spiritual concern that we, the concerned Members of ECWA Kano DCC, issue this public statement regarding the misleading call for National Prayer and fasting for 3 days, for the purpose of diverting attention of the public.
Furthermore, we must expose the deception wrapped in “THE NEEDLESSNESS AND MISLEADING CALL OF THE 3 DAY NATIONAL PRAYER AND FASTING.”
The ECWA’s call for 3-day National prayer and fasting for Kano and Bauchi issues is needless. A few out of many reasons are presented here, such as:
- A faction of ECWA Kano DCC called 7 LCCs took ECWA to court in 2022, challenging the legality of the election conducted by the ECWA executive. This faction lost it in court, as their case was dismissed and the election conducted by ECWA was upheld. The judgement of July 2024 gave ECWA victory and the 7 LCCs as a body was not recognized in ECWA. But the current EE refused to implement the court judgment where it emerged victorious. The unrecognized faction of the DCC was stopped by the court not to carry out any function, in a twist of faith, the ECWA Leadership turned and backed the 7 LCCs, allowing them to operate on their own, up until the purported split of the Kano DCC which is now being challenged in the court of law. What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- Undermining the current Kano DCC leadership by the ECWA Executive in the administration of the 7 LCCs was openly done without regard. We are witnesses when sometimes last year 2024, the ECWA President through the GS directed the unrecognized faction of the 7 LCCs in Kano to send some pastors to ECWA Zonzon DCC for licensing and ordination which is aliened to ECWA books and practice. A faction unrecognized by ECWA books and further upheld by the competent court of law in Kano was recognized and pampered by the ECWA Executive. The 11 candidates:
(1) Rev Adamu Haruna
(2) Rev Rabiu Ibrahim
(3) Past Haruna Auwalu
(4) Past Nuhu Abdu
(5) Past Samaila Sani
(6) Past Habila Andrawus
(7) Past Elisha Y Madaki
(8) Past Zakariya Ayuba
(9) past Samaila Hamza Ayuba
(10) Rev Aminu Maiwada
(11) Abdullahi Umar
for licensing and ordination traveled from Kano to Zonzon DCC in Kaduna for the said licensing and ordination. Rev Gombo Kajang Zonzon DCC Chairman, done under the express instruction of EE. What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- Concern Members of ECWA Kano DCC filed a case against all of these anomalies, and a court injunction was given on April 15th 2025. The order prohibited structural changes, the ECWA Executive unlawfully proceeded to split Kano DCC. This constitutes contempt of court, and it is a criminal offense under Nigerian law, and sadly, signifying a spiritual failure of leaders before God (Romans 13:1–2). What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- Even more alarming is the abuse of power and office by setting aside Chapter III, Section 64 of the ECWA Constitution which states,
- An existing DCC shall be eligible to write to the GCC.
- Two-Thirds majority of the DCC Council must be in support.
- The request shall be accompanied by three copies of minutes of such resolution.
- The GCC shall set up a committee to examine the need for the DCC.
- The proposal for the creation of DCC shall be supported by a referendum of at least two-thirds majority of the members, and be approved by the two-thirds majority of the DCC Council. Just to mention a few.
Such rascality, if allowed will kill the Church. Church leaders cancel constitutional provisions arbitrarily is a call for anarchy and should be challenged by every ECWA member. Then, What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- We are also grieved that Rev. Dr. David Gyet, despite unresolved allegations of moral misconduct of raping a minor, and she is still waiting for justice by ECWA, yet, he continues to be elevated and protected by the current ECWA leadership as against biblical injunction; 1 Timothy 3:2 which teaches us that a church leader must be “above reproach.” This compromise tarnishes ECWA’s testimony and confuses the youth about biblical leadership. What exactly friends is the call for prayer for?
- ECWA leaders promotion and compensation of their political ally; Rev David Gyet, by the unlawful removals of Rev. Dr. Benjamin Nassara the immediate Director ECWA Church Related Ministries. He was removed from the office unlawfully, no query, no warning, no crime committed but because he does not belong to Satanic Coalition Party, which office is located at Rock Haven Algadama behind Catholic Renewal Center, sadly, the head of the party was heard bragging that he asked for Ben’s removal. As if that is not bad enough, it was the same Rev. David Gyet with such a tented image that they used to replace him. What exactly is the call for prayer for?
As regards Bauchi issues;
- Rev. Abednego M. Kam, an elected DCC Secretary which tenure was shortened so he could be compensated with the position of Director of the ECWA PoD, with this leadership rascality, What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- Unlawful and unconstitutional excommunication of ECWA members in Bauchi during the 72nd General Church Council. Despite the unconstitutional activities by the ECWA Leadership, we were called to pray, What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- Bending the constitution of ECWA to accommodate unconstitutional electoral practices in ECWA under this administration over the last one year in Office is appalling. Example is the case of Bauchi South DCC Secretary’s election and also that of Chairman of Saminaka DCC just to mention a few. The Bauchi DCC secretary has not completed his tenure but was cut short and his successor does not meet the constitutional requirements and in the Chairman of Saminaka was replaced after first tenure by one who has not met the criteria for election into that office.
Constitutionally the officers selected to replace the outgoing in both case were not qualified and they did not meet up with the criteria for election into the said offices but the current ECWA leadership went ahead and approved the election as orchestrated by the corrupt Rev. David Gyet and a key trustee. With this impunity, What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- Unconstitutional employment of over aged individuals, Eg, EEs’ wives, children and friends, most of whom not within the employment age of 40-45 years, without following the due process of employment, compensation of political allies, and outright vendetta of anyone that is not with them is now the order of the day at the Headquarters. What exactly is the call for prayer for?
- Politics of colony, removing officers that don’t belong in the coalition. What exactly is the call for prayer for?
OUR POSITION AND DEMANDS
- THE COURT JUDGMENT AND ORDER MUST BE RESPECTED
- A judgment delivered in favor of ECWA by the Chief Justice of Kano State, Justice Dije on 27/6/2024 must be respected and implemented.
- On April 15, 2025, Hon. Justice Aisha Mahmoud of the High Court No. 24, Gwarzo Judicial Division, issued an order in Suit No. K/19/2025 (Elder Ali Abdu & 8 Others vs ECWA Registered Trustees & 13 Others) which states: “An order is hereby granted directing the Defendants/Respondents to maintain status quo ante bellum in respect of this matter pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.” should be respected not prayer! This means no structural, leadership, or disciplinary changes were to be made until the court rules. Should be adhered to strictly, not prayer!
- CONTEMPT OF COURT IS A CRIME
Despite this binding instruction, the ECWA Executive:
– Proposed and pushed for the illegal restructuring of Kano DCC,
– Suggested punitive actions and leadership changes,
– Initiated election of new DCC leadership.
These actions directly violate the court order and amount to criminal contempt under Nigerian law. This must not be ignored. Obeying court orders, not prayers!
- BLATANT VIOLATION OF ECWA’S CONSTITUTION
The ECWA Constitution demands:
– Due process and procedural integrity,
– Fair hearing and inclusive participation,
– Respect for church autonomy and legal authority.
These principles were disregarded through:
– Irreversible actions during a pending legal case,
– Misleading GCC members for rubber-stamp approval,
– Ignoring the balanced recommendations of the third committee. The rule of law should be followed and not prayer!
- SPIRITUAL AND ETHICAL COLLAPSE MUST BE ADDRESSED
We observe a growing pattern of:
– Leadership manipulation and spiritual intimidation,
– Ethnic bias and factionalism,
– Disregard for the moral example expected of leaders. This is not merely a governance issue; it is a spiritual crisis. ECWA cannot claim holiness while practicing compromise. The church cannot assert moral authority while defying both civil and ecclesiastical law. Who needs prayers.
- THE SERIOUS BREAKDOWN OF LAW AND ORDER IN KANO DCC, THE 72ND GCC AFTERMATH. After the General Church Council (GCC) meeting in April, Rev. Emmanuel Malomo started parading himself as the “chairman” of a DCC that was created illegally. This has led to a serious breakdown of law and order in Kano DCC. It has been observed immediately after the GCC, he was quickly and wrongly elected in May 2025. On Sunday the 8th June, 2025 the worst happened. During the mid-morning service at ECWA Egbo section held at the Kano DCC Conference hall, one Rev Dr. Emmanuel Malomo, a self made leader accompanied by Rev James Owoniyi, Mr Raphael Bature, Mr Enoch Kwakwa, Mr. Nuhu Ahmed, Barr. Heman Jamiyel, Mr. Usman Iliya, and one Police Officer harassed and confronted Pastor Bako Badau on the altar, in full view of the congregation.
Rev. Malomo, who acted in a manner inconsistent with clerical decorum, claimed to be under EE’s instruction. The police officer, in a threatening posture, cocked his service rifle while attempting to arrest the service leader, Pastor Bako Badau. without prior notice or a warrant being presented.
The sudden aggression and display of force caused panic and fear among congregants. Many worshippers fled the scene for safety, while others tried to intervene or de-escalate the tension. The worship service was ultimately disrupted.
After disrupting the service at the DCC Conference Hall, Rev. Malomo, proceeded to noman’s Land Church, showing tribal favoritism and using his unrecognized position wrongly, transfered Rev. James Awoniyi his brother and tried to install him by force. According to ECWA rules, it is the duty of the Local Overseer (LO) to install pastors in local churches. But instead, He went to the church along with his family, ignoring calls for due process and respect for the law of authority. When was not allowed access to the church building, Rev. Malomo was seen in a video cursing in the name of being a man of God. He even said, “If I be a man of God”. This sad event showed pride, rebellion, and a lack of spiritual discipline. Such behavior brings shame to the office of a pastor and damages the good name of the Church. It is wrong and dangerous, both spiritually and organizationally. The matter has been reported to Kano State Police Commissioner. What then is the call for prayers for?
CONCLUSION AND CALL TO ACTION
We call on all true lovers of ECWA—pastors, elders, lay leaders, youth, and women across Nigeria and beyond—to wake up and speak out. Silence is no longer an option. If this culture of impunity continues, future leaders will walk deeper in rebellion without accountability.
We demand the following:
- Immediate suspension of all decisions made at the 72nd GCC regarding Kano DCC until the court rules.
- Full compliance with the court order of April 15, 2025, and cessation of further action until the next hearing on May 19, 2025.
- Accountability for ECWA leaders who acted in contempt of court and violated the Constitution.
- Reaffirmation of constitutional governance, biblical leadership, and procedural justice in all ECWA affairs.
- Immediate removal from high office of any leader under unresolved moral investigation to preserve the integrity of the church.
- We are surprised and called on ECWA General Church Council to take immediate action on leaders who failed to live by their oth of office as enshrined in ECWA Constitution and Bye-Laws.
- We call on the GCC to immediately investigate the unconstitutional employment of EE’s wives, Children, friends and coalition members at the ECWA Headquarters and ECWA business outfits.
- We are calling on the Police Commissioner Kano State Command to investigate the 8th June incident and punish the perpetrators for equity, justice, peace and to maintain law and order.
Let us remember:
“Let all things be done decently and in order.” – 1 Corinthians 14:40
“The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in people who are trustworthy.” – Proverbs 12:22
We are not rebels. We are sons and daughters of ECWA, standing in defense of the rule of law, spirituality, Justice and equity.
Signed,
Concerned Members of ECWA Kano DCC
