Dear Honourable Attorney General,
A Call to Take Urgent Further Action
I am writing to express appreciation for taking over the case of the #EndBadGovernance protesters, the majority of whom are from Kano State. Your intervention is a beacon of hope for justice and human rights in our country.
However, I would like to respectfully bring to your attention that taking over the case is only the first step. It is crucial to direct the Human Rights Commission to conduct thorough investigations into the allegations of human rights abuses, particularly against the children involved. The Anti-Torture Act and other laws must be upheld to ensure accountability.
While previous Attorneys General have taken over cases in the past, your leadership should provide an opportunity to set a precedent for robust action. I urge you to take concrete steps to protect the rights of the innocent protesters, particularly the minors who appeared in court sick, slim, hungry and malnourished, which prima-facie indicate their inhuman condition while at the hand of the Inspector General of Police. Your good office needs to demonstrate commitment to justice by directing the Human Rights Commission to investigate allegations of human rights abuses.
Your proactive approach will not only safeguard the rights of the innocent children but also protect your reputation, which you painstakingly built over the years, and Nigeria’s international image.
Sincerely,
Usman Umar Fari Esq.
Chairman, NBA, Kano Branch.
Our source said the Kano branch chairman’s letter and others received from other groups will galvanize the AGF to take the most appropriate action.
