Four die, seven injured as uncompleted building collapses in Sabongari, Kano

About four people have been confirmed dead and seven others injured following the collapse of an uncompleted three-storey building at Abedi Road, Sabon Gari, Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening after a heavy downpour, according to spokespersons for the Kano State Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Saminu Yusif and Umar Madigawa respectively.

Authorities said the victims included construction workers and passersby who sought shelter in the uncompleted building during the rain.

Madigawa revealed that the NEMA Kano operation office received a distress call at about 6:49 p.m. and promptly activated a Search and Rescue (SAR) operation in collaboration with other emergency agencies.

“As of 11:30 a.m. on Monday, 11 victims have been rescued — four were confirmed dead and seven others injured. They have been evacuated to Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention,” he stated.

Emergency responders are continuing efforts to search for any additional victims possibly trapped under the rubble.
