Kano Philanthropist, Usman Yahaya Kansila, Bags Honorary Doctorate Degree in Accountancy
A prominent contractors to Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), AlhajiYahaya Usman Kansila, has been described as a philanthropist of repute considering his track record in youth employment and educational development.
Speaking with newsmen at the 10th convocation ceremony of Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, in Abia State where Alhaji Usman was bestowed with Honorary Doctorate Degree in accountancy, Professor Yahuza Bello, Professor Muktar Aliku and
Malam Ibrahim Khalil, Esimobi, key country surveyor and a builder, Provost of Sahah Daturumi college of Education, Professor Yahaya Issa Bunkure, Regional Bank Head of Fidelity bank, North Central Sadi Zawuuya, Professor of Accounting Integration at Bayero University Kano and external Examiner at Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Professor Kabir Issa Dandago, Ibrahim Kabir, the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Bayero University Kano, Professor Muhammad Bello, all noted that Alhaji Usman was deserving of the honour.
They added that through his foundation, UYK, many people, including women youths and the indigents have secured better future via his benevolence.
According to them, Alhaji Usman is a detribalised Nigerian and has accommodated many Nigerians in his company irrespective of tribe and religion, but believes in hard work.
Contributing, Professor Mariat Tanuche stated that Alhaji Usman is a rare gem, a notable philanthropist and an indigenous contractor with a difference.
Alhaji Usman’s sister, Maimuna Yahaya Kansila congratulated her brother for the honor and the university management for recognizing the efforts of his brother in youth employment. She added that if the society can produce more of her brother, the society will do better. “We are very grateful to have him in our family. We are also grateful to the university management for their generous for choosing our brother as a recipient of Honorary Doctorate Degree.”
She described him as a great champion who is always after the development of the society not only in his family.
Responding, Alhaji Usman Kansila expressed happiness over the honor despite the differences in Nigeria. He noted that the people of Nigeria can work together in nation building. He promised that the students of Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture will benefit more from his scholarship foundation.
His words: “I am overwhelmed with the honor done me by this university and thank Almighty Allah for His Grace and blessings. It is an encouragement for me to do a lot more. The honorary doctorate degree came to me as a surprise.
“According to the Senate and the university community, they were convinced on what we have been doing, empowering young generation, young professionals and the needy and it will be a reference point for others to help serve the society as we have been doing in corporate social responsibility and it is a critical factor for the university to confer this honour on us”.
The president, Federal Republic of Nigeria and visitor to the University, Muhammadu Buhari, represented by the minister of agriculture, Mohammed Mahmood Abubakar, said universities of agriculture were established with the strong conviction that they are cardinal tools for the rapid transformation of Nigeria’s agricultural sector.
President Buhari pointed out that the agricultural sector remains a major driver in industrial development, diversification from heavy dependence on non-renewable mineral oil as well as achieving self-sufficient in food production for local consumption.
