Lennox Lewis predicts Tyson Fury won’t retire after today’s Oleksandr Usyk rematch
Lennox Lewis, the former heavyweight champion, has shared his insights regarding Tyson Fury’s potential future following his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk.
Lewis believes that regardless of the outcome of the rematch between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk, retirement is not on the horizon for Fury.
Instead, both winning or losing could lead to further high-profile fights, particularly with Anthony Joshua being highlighted as a major potential opponent should Fury lose.
The rematch is set to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, and comes after Usyk’s victory over Fury by split decision in their first encounter earlier this year.

This upcoming fight is highly anticipated as it not only involves two of the best heavyweights in the world but also carries significant implications for their careers.
Lewis expressed skepticism about the idea that Tyson Fury would retire if he were to lose to Oleksandr Usyk. He believes that a loss would not mark the end of Fury’s boxing career. Instead, Lewis suggested that the most significant fight for Fury post-Usyk would be a bout against Anthony Joshua.
This matchup has been long speculated upon and is considered one of the biggest draws in heavyweight boxing today. Lewis stated, “If Tyson Fury loses, I would say he probably won’t retire. The biggest fight for him is Anthony Joshua and that’s another great fight.”
Lewis also indicated that if Fury wins against Usyk, he likely wouldn’t retire either because it would create an opportunity for a trilogy fight between them—given that they would then have one win each against each other (1-1). This perspective highlights the competitive nature of boxing where fighters often seek to settle scores through additional matches rather than stepping away from the sport after a defeat.
Undefeated Oleksandr Usyk will face off against Tyson Fury on Saturday, Dec. 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for a highly anticipated IBF, IBO, WBA, WBC and WBO undisputed world heavyweight title fight.
Fury, the underdog, is seeking redemption after losing the WBC heavyweight title to Usyk in May by split decision. He has stated that he will come into this rematch stronger than he was in their first encounter. The significance of this rematch cannot be overstated, as it is a chance for Fury to reclaim his title and for Usyk to solidify his position. The initial matchup had to be postponed due to an eye injury Fury sustained, which required stitches and delayed the bout from February to May.
