Many injured in Ilorin secondary school students clash

Many injured in Ilorin secondary school students clash

A violent clash occurred between students from two secondary schools in Iliorin, Kwara State capital on Monday, leading to many injuries.

The schools involved are Government High School and Government Day Secondary School.

The altercation was reportedly fueled by an ongoing disagreement that had been simmering for approximately two weeks prior to the clash, which escalated into what is believed to be a reprisal attack.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with students engaged in physical confrontations that led to injuries and damage to property. The conflict is suspected to have roots in issues related to cultism and a struggle for supremacy between the student bodies of the two schools. A student from Government Day Secondary School noted that tensions had been building up before their recent examinations, which concluded shortly before the clash.

Additionally, Peter Amogbonjaye, Press Secretary in the state Ministry of Education, indicated that an official statement regarding the incident would be forthcoming. This suggests that there may be further actions or responses planned by educational authorities in light of this troubling event.
