The growth trend in the market according to operators was driven by the CBN-led banking sector recapitalisation which sparked heightened investor interest in banking stocks, leading to a 6.96 per cent increase in first quarter (Q1) 2025.

During this period, banks collectively raised approximately N2.4 trillion in fresh capital, reinforcing market confidence and driving sectoral growth. This has driven a rally in the sector and contributed to the broader market uptrend, as most banks are currently in the second phase of their recapitalisation plans

Capital market analysts also attributed the upbeat at the stock market to the increasing attractiveness of the Nigerian market to foreign investors, ongoing economic reforms, resilient earnings by Nigerian companies, exchange rate differential and the ongoing federal government reforms and other reforms in the oil sector.
