NiMet issues weather alert for Nigeria: Low visibility, dust haze expected
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather alert regarding dust haze affecting various regions of Nigeria from Thursday to Saturday.
This forecast indicates varying levels of visibility across the country, which is crucial for public awareness and safety.
NiMet’s weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja envisaged a slight dust haze on Thursday in good visibility throughout the forecast period in the north.
According to NiMet, the North-Central states are expected to experience slight dust haze in good visibility throughout the forecast period.

It anticipated moderate dust haze with a visibility range of two to five kilometres throughout the forecast period in the south.
The agency predicted early morning fog or mist over the coastal areas.
For Thursday, a slight dust haze is expected throughout the forecast period in the northern region. The North-Central is expected to experience slight dust haze throughout the forecast period.
The southern parts of Nigeria are forecasted to experience moderate dust haze throughout the period from Thursday to Saturday. Visibility here is expected to be notably reduced, ranging from 2 kilometers to 5 kilometers, which could affect travel and outdoor activities.
The agency predicted moderate dust haze in the north on Friday, with a visibility range of two to five kilometres throughout the forecast period.
According to NiMet, the North-Central should be in moderate dust haze with a visibility range of two to five kilometres during the forecast period.
It envisaged early morning fog or mist over the coastal areas of the country, while slight dust haze in patches of clouds is expected over the region during the afternoon and evening periods.
Dust particles are in suspension, said NiMet, urging the public to take necessary precautions.
NiMet has advised individuals with respiratory conditions such as asthma to exercise caution due to suspended dust particles in the air. It is important for these individuals to stay indoors when possible and use protective measures if they must go outside.
NiMet also advised Airline operators have been encouraged to consult airport-specific weather reports for effective flight planning during this period of reduced visibility.
