NLC, TUC declare indefinite strike from October 3

THE Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have declared an indefinite strike starting from October 3

They therefore advised Nigerians to stockpile foodstuffs because the strike would shut down economic activities in the country.

The president of NLC, Joe Ajaero and that of the TUC, Festus Osifo, disclosed this after their separate Emergency National Executive Council meetings in Abuja on Tuesday.

According to the communique read by the two presidents, the indefinite strike was as a result of the alleged insensitivity of government to the plights of Nigerians as a result of the removal of petrol subsidy and continuous demonstration of unwillingness and complete lack of initiative.

The labour bodies have continued to engage the federal government since the inception of the Tinubu administration.

Earlier  atteempts to shut down the countrythrough indefinite strikes were halted when the government sat with the leaders of the unions and made some pledges, which were said to have remained unfulfilled.

A 2-day warning strike was was called two weeks ago to signal the desire to call a bigger one.
