PDP raises alarm over plans to postpone Jigawa local governments poll
The Jigawa State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said it would resist any attempt to postpone the LG elections in Jigawa State.
This was contained in a statement Sunday by the state chairman of the PDP, Hon Ali Diginsa.
The party said it would not allow the state House of Assembly to tamper with local government electoral laws to pave way for the appointment of caretaker committees in the 27 local government areas of the state.

The PDP said the APC is jittery and afraid of going into the election because they allegedly failed Jigawa people by throwing them into abject poverty and hunger.
“Jigawa people are eager to give APC its score card that is why the party and its leaders do not want the state local government election to take place,” the statement reads in part.
Reasons for postponement of elections in Nigeria
The postponement of local government elections in Nigeria can occur due to various reasons, including logistical challenges, security concerns, legal issues, or the need for more preparation time.
In the context of Nigeria’s electoral history, there have been instances where local government elections were postponed for different reasons.
Logistical Challenges: One common reason for the postponement of elections in Nigeria, including local government elections, is logistical challenges. Issues such as the distribution of voter cards, inadequate preparation of polling materials, or technical problems with voting machines can lead to delays in conducting elections.
Security Concerns: Security concerns have also played a significant role in the postponement of elections in Nigeria. Instances where security threats, such as insurgent activities by groups like Boko Haram, pose risks to voters, election officials, and the electoral process can prompt authorities to delay elections to ensure the safety and security of all involved.
Legal Issues and Court Decisions: In some cases, legal challenges and court decisions can result in the postponement of elections. Disputes over electoral processes, demands for forensic evidence examination related to ballot rigging claims, or court orders mandating changes in voting procedures can lead to delays in holding local government elections.
Preparation Time and Readiness: Additionally, the need for more time to prepare adequately for elections can be a reason for postponement. Factors such as insufficient readiness of election equipment like BVAS machines (Biometric Voter Authentication System), delays in deployment or configuration of voting devices, or legal battles affecting election timelines can necessitate rescheduling local government polls.
Overall, a combination of these factors or specific circumstances unique to each election cycle can contribute to the decision to postpone local government elections in Nigeria.
