Southern Kaduna to get federal university, medical centre, says Shettima

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna, as announced by vice president, Kashim Shettima.

He said this decision to establish the federal university in Southern Kaduna is a significant development aimed at addressing the educational and developmental needs of the region. The announcement was made during a condolence visit to the Kukah family following the death of His Highness, Yohanna Sidi Kukah, who was a prominent traditional ruler and relative of Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah.

During his visit to Ikulu Kingdom in Kamuru, Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, Vice President Shettima stated that discussions had been ongoing with local representatives, including Senator Katung and members of the House of Representatives, regarding this initiative to build the federal university in Southern Kaduna.

He emphasized that President Tinubu’s consent reflects his administration’s commitment to improving educational infrastructure and opportunities in Southern Kaduna.

In addition to the federal university, Shettima mentioned that there are plans for establishing a Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Kafanchan, which would further enhance healthcare services in the area. This dual focus on education and healthcare indicates a comprehensive approach to regional development.

Shettima highlighted that this initiative is part of a strategy by the Tinubu administration to address various challenges faced by Southern Kaduna. He pointed out that appointments such as General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff demonstrate the government’s attention to security issues in the region. Furthermore, he commended Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive governance approach, which aims to ensure all parts of Kaduna State feel represented and supported.

The vice president reassured residents that their needs are being prioritized by the federal government and expressed hope that these initiatives will foster greater development and connectivity within Southern Kaduna.
