Tinubu hails Nigerian Ijeoma Uchegbu on election as Cambridge varsity college president
President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigerian-born Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience and renowned researcher, Ijeoma Uchegbu, on her election as seventh president of Wolfson College, one of the 31 colleges of the University of Cambridge.
Famous for her innovative work in nanoparticle drug delivery, the Nigerian is currently a Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience at University College, London (UCL).
Tinubu, in a statement on Sunday, celebrated the outstanding accomplishment and commended the don for being an excellent ambassador for the country and her efforts to advance pharmaceutical sciences.
Issued by his spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale, the President lauded Uchegbu for epitomising the ingenuity, brilliance and hard work that are consistently synonymous with the great Nigerian people both at home and abroad.
While wishing the academic more success as she takes on the important role, Tinubu assured Nigerians in the Diaspora that his administration remains committed to building a robust interface that harnesses ideas, promotes investment opportunities, and strengthens bonds in line with his ‘4D Foreign Policy’.
A statement confirming the Uchegbu’s election reads: “We are delighted to announce that Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu, a ground-breaking nanoscientist, has been elected as Wolfson’s seventh President.
“Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu, a Professor of Pharmaceutical Nanoscience known for her ground-breaking work in nanoparticle drug delivery, will become the seventh President of Wolfson. She will succeed the current President, Professor Jane Clarke, on October 1, 2024.”
