According to some government functionaries, the primary reasons for this initiative are as follows:
Complementing Conventional Security Agencies
The state aims to bolster its security apparatus by creating a local security outfit that will work in conjunction with existing law enforcement agencies. This collaboration is crucial in addressing the security challenges faced by the state.
Enhancing Community Security
The proposed security outfit is expected to enhance security within Benue communities. By deploying a significant number of trained youths, the state seeks to create a safer environment where residents can go about their daily activities without fear.
Protecting Farmers and Farmlands
One of the key objectives of launching the security outfit is to safeguard farmers and their farmlands. By ensuring a secure environment for agricultural activities, the state aims to promote food security and economic stability.
Countering External Threats
Governor Alia highlighted that some enemies of the state had invited unknown gunmen to disrupt peace and stability in Benue. The establishment of the security outfit is part of a proactive approach to repel external threats and maintain internal security.
Strategic Deployment
To facilitate effective operations, the state government plans to equip the security outfit with Hilux vans and motorcycles. This strategic deployment will enable rapid response and coverage of various areas within Benue State, including remote regions.
Addressing Specific Areas of Concern
Governor Alia identified specific local government areas such as Kwande, Ukum, Logo, Gwer East, Gwer West, Guma, Apa, and Agatu as being particularly affected by security challenges. The new security outfit will focus on these areas to address ongoing threats effectively.
