Cristiano Ronaldo blasts Erik ten Hag, Wayne Rooney, says Man United lacks evolution since Alex Ferguson
Cristiano Ronaldo blasted Manchester United and Erik ten Hag during an explosive interview with Piers Morgan.
Ronaldo is undergoing a disappointing season after he was denied a summer exit by United after the Red Devils failed to qualify for the Champions League.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has been intensely criticised since the summer as he struggled to find form to impress new boss Ten Hag, who has been leaving Ronaldo on the bench for the majority of United’s season so far.
And now, he has had his say as he spoke exclusively to Morgan.
Whilst he blasted Ten Hag for having no respect, Ronaldo added: “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.
Ronaldo also went in on former teammate Wayne Rooney, questioning why the Englishman always criticised him. He said: “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly. . . probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at a high level.
“I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true. . . ”
Ronaldo also spoke about his decision to return to Old Trafford last summer, rejecting Manchester City.
He said: “I followed my heart. He (Sir Alex) said to me, ‘It’s impossible for you to come to Manchester City, and I said, ‘OK, Boss’.”
However, Ronaldo said he soon realised that the club were no longer the same as when he left the first time around.
Ronaldo continued: “The progress was zero. Since Sir Alex left, I saw no evolution in the club. Nothing had changed.
“I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.
“But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal . . . a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not, unfortunately.”
