Saidu Tudunwada emerges president as MULAN gets new national leaders

The Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria (MULAN) has elected Barrister Saidu Muhammad Tudunwada as its new president.

Tudunwada, from Kano State, emerged president at MULAN’s 15th Annual General Conference (AGC) in Ibadan, Oyo State.

Tagged Ibadan 2024, the AGC was a 3-day event which began on Friday, May 3rd, 2024.

The new MULAN EXCO will serve from 2024 to 2026.

Profile of the new president

He’s Saidu Muhammad Tudunwada, LL.B, BL, LL.M, LL.D (INVIEW), ACIARB.

Born on the 17th day of April, 1969, Tudunwada graduated from Bayero University, Kano in 1994. He holds a master’s degree in law from the same university specializing in Company and Labour Relations Law.

He has considerable experience and specialized training in various fields of law and has broad experience in various aspects of lawyering skills. He has at various times acted as an Advocate, a Solicitor and also as Arbitrator.

He also has experience locally and internationally in dispute resolution and complex transactions. He has advised various public sector clients and has at various times acted on behalf of National Identity Management Commission, the Independent National Electoral Commission, the Nigerian National Assembly as well as several Commercial Banks and other private sector clients.

He has maintained active engagement with Civil Society Groups, the Academia and public interest organizations. He has appeared in many cases before the Federal and States High Courts, Court of Appeal and the Nigerian Supreme Court.

He has participated and presented papers in various seminars in Nigeria.

He is the Managing Partner of the law firm of S.D. MUHD & CO. and is a member of many professional bodies including the International Bar Association (IBA), African Bar Association (ABA) and the prestigious Nigeria Bar Association (NBA). He is the Vice Chairman of the Muslim Lawyers Association of Nigeria Kano State Branch and was appointed Notary Public by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Walter Samuel Onoghen GCON.

Over the years he has lent his expertise to several committees of the NBA Kano Branch, leveraging his legal acumen, relationships and strategic thinking to contribute to the growth and development of the legal profession.

He has been an active member and has over the years demonstrated his commitment to serving the Muslims Lawyers Association of Nigeria whenever called upon to do so both at the branch and the national levels. He has served under various capacities and is contributing to the growth and progress of MULAN.

He served as the 2nd vice chairman of Kano branch of MULAN between

2018-2020. Thereafter, he served as the 2nd vice president during the tenure of Professor Abdulkadir Ibrahim Abikan between 2020 and 2022.

He was 1st vice president of MULAN under the leadership of Dr. Kazeem Olaniyan, and assumed the role of chairman of the Finance and Fund-raising Committee of the Law Week 2020 which was meticulously planned and adjudged to be the best so far.

His exceptional organizational skills and commitment to excellence ensured the success of the week-long event, which serves as a vital platform for networking, fostering camaraderie, and supporting the branch’s activities.

He was the chairman Finance and General Purpose Committee of the NBA Kano Branch.

At the moment, he is undergoing his Doctorate Degree in Law (LL.D) at University of Jos, Plateau State. He is married to Barrister Fatima Babadisa Goji and he is blessed with seven children.
