‘We are inviting Saudi Arabia to develop demolished Eid premises’ in Kano– Gov Kabir
Kano State government will invite the Saudi Arabian government to erect structures at the site where business premises were demolished at the state Eid ground.
The state governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, revealed this while addressing the Emir of Kano at the state Government House during the Eid-el- Kabir Sallah celebration.
While reiterating that he had no regret on the demolitions his government carried out in the state, Governor Kabir said he was already in touch with the Saudi authorities on how the cleared ground could be taken over by the Saudis for other purposes.
The governor said “We are planning something good for the Eid ground. We are already in touch with Saudi Arabian ambassador on the Eid ground to have a good architectural sketch regarding structures that will be used for religious purposes in the state.”
He added that “Every Islamic sect in the state can have access to the place for their religious activities.”
The governor’s statement has attracted reactions from citizens of the state.
While some said it was “not patriotic to deny Kano citizens the right to develop the place for their own benefit and the benefit of commerce generally, and then turn around to invite foreigners to take over the place”, others said it was proper to develop the place for religious purposes only.
