Kano govt redeploys Perm Sec over allegation of job racketeering, constitutes probe committee

The Kano State government has taken decisive action by redeploying a Permanent Secretary (Perm Sec) following allegations of job racketeering.

This development has sparked significant interest and concern among the public, as it raises questions about the integrity of the civil service system and the potential exploitation of employment opportunities.

The state government approved the immediate redeployment of the Perm Sec of the state Civil Service Commission, Mustapha Kabuga, over allegations of printing and signing illegal letters of appointment into the state civil service.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Commissioners of Information, Baba Halilu Dantiye, a copy of which was made available to Nigerian Sketch Saturday evening.

According to Dantiye, the redeployment letter was signed by the Perm Sec, Administration and General Services, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Kabiru Magami, on behalf of the SSG. Dr. Baffa Bichi.

The letter added that the government has constituted a three-man fact-finding committee under the chairmanship of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters, Dr. Sulaiman Sani, to investigate the matter and submit its report within 10 days.

“The affected Permanent Secretary has been redeployed to the Office of the Head of Civil Service pending completion of the committee’s assignment,” the statement said.

In the same vein, Salahuddern Habib has been appointed as the Acting Perm Sec for the Commission with effect from Monday,14th August 2023.

The committee is mandated to determine the number and distribution of illegal letters of appointment into the state civil service that were produced by some staff of the commission; determine the officers that are responsible for the printing of the illegal letters; establish their source of authority or directives to print the illegal letters; and provide appropriate recommendations to the government in accordance with extant rules.

Other members of the committee are Engr. Kabir  Zakirai and Malam Umar Jalo.
