TRAGEDY IN DUBLIN: 21-year-old Nigerian-Irish concert promoter fatally stabbed after club brawl

A 21-year-old Nigerian-Irish concert promoter, Qayyum Balogun, has tragically lost his life after being stabbed multiple times during a violent altercation in Dublin city centre.

The incident, which occurred in the early hours of Monday morning, has sent shockwaves through both the Irish capital and the Nigerian diaspora community.

According to local reports, the tragedy unfolded near Bewley’s Cafe following a confrontation between two groups after a night out.

During the initial dispute, Mr. Balogun was stabbed in the arm. Witnesses revealed that in a desperate bid for survival, the young promoter attempted to flee, running through several streets. However, he was relentlessly pursued by the opposing group, who caught up with him and stabbed him multiple times.

Emergency first responders treated Balogun at the scene before rushing him to St. James’ Hospital. Despite their best efforts, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

A young woman who happened to be on the street when the dispute erupted was also stabbed during the chaos. Her current condition has not been specified.

The Irish police (Gardaí) have officially launched a full murder investigation. Detectives are currently reviewing extensive CCTV footage from the area, with authorities strongly suspecting that the individual who delivered the fatal blows was captured on camera.

Gardaí are urgently appealing to the public for information, specifically asking anyone who was in the vicinity of South Anne Street, Duke Lane Upper, Grafton Street and Clarendon Street areas between 2:30 a.m. and 3:30 a.m. to come forward.

While the exact motive behind the attack remains unclear, investigators have reportedly ruled out racism. Instead, detectives are focusing on whether Mr. Balogun was known to his killer or shared the same social circle.

A spokesperson for Ireland’s minister for justice, Jim O’Callaghan, confirmed the minister had been briefed by police and extended his deepest condolences to the deceased’s family.

Speaking to RTÉ Radio’s Drivetime, the victim’s heartbroken family remembered a young man who was full of life and far removed from street violence.

His mother, Teslimot Balogun, described her late son as “a very funny guy” who was “always friendly, very quiet, and easy-going.”

His stepmother, Loveth Patrick, made an emotional plea for accountability, describing him as a peaceful young man.

“He was one of the sweetest souls you could ever meet—gentle, calm. He was always smiling and didn’t look for trouble. We want justice for Qayyum,” she said.

The Irish Times reports that Qayyum’s father, who currently resides outside of Ireland, is making immediate arrangements to travel to the country following the devastating news.
