Panic in Akure as gunmen abduct six health workers in midnight raid
Residents of Oke Ijebu in Akure, the Ondo State capital, have been thrown into a state of panic following the abduction of at least six health workers by unidentified gunmen during a daring midnight operation.
The incident occurred at a health facility located opposite the Mega School in the early hours of Saturday.
According to local sources, the assailants arrived at the facility around 2:00 am in a bus. Witnesses say the gunmen forcefully gained entry into the premises and rounded up the staff members on duty.
The victims, reported to include several interns, were reportedly dragged into the waiting vehicle before the kidnappers sped off to an unknown destination.
Patients spared, residents shaken
While the gunmen focused their attention on the medical personnel, patients receiving treatment at the center were left unharmed. However, the raid has left the facility in a state of shock, with patients and witnesses described as “visibly traumatized” by the clinical precision of the attack.

The bold nature of the kidnapping in the state capital has triggered an outcry from the local community. Residents who spoke to Nigerian Sketch expressed deep concern over the escalating insecurity, calling the targeting of a healthcare facility “alarming.”
“We are living in fear. If a health center is no longer safe in the middle of the capital, where else is safe?” one resident lamented.
Community leaders are now calling for an urgent intervention by the Ondo State Government and security agencies to track down the kidnappers and ensure the safe return of the abducted workers.
As of the time of this report, the Ondo State Police Command and other relevant security agencies have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident or confirm if any rescue operations are underway.
