Court summons ECWA president for contempt, nullifies inauguration of ‘Illegal’ Kano Central DCC
A Kano High Court (Vacation Court 2) has nullified the inauguration of the purported Kano Central District Church Council (DCC), describing the act as a direct violation of a subsisting court order.
It will be recalled that on 11th August 2025, the court had restrained the leadership of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) from taking any further steps concerning the disputed Kano Central DCC.
The order, served by substituted means on 15th August 2025, was meant to preserve the subject matter until the case is determined.
In brazen defiance of this directive, the ECWA General Secretary proceeded to inaugurate Rev. Dr. Emmanuel O. Malomo and five others as chairman and executive members of the Kano Central DCC on Saturday (16th August 2025).
The plaintiffs’ counsel promptly returned to court with an application, drawing the judge’s attention to the blatant disregard of the order.
In a decisive ruling, the court set aside every action taken by the church on Saturday in connection with the purported inauguration, stressing that no act carried out in defiance of a valid court order can stand.
The judge further directed that Form 48 (Notice of Consequences of Disobedience to Court Order) be served on the ECWA President, a step that formally puts him on notice of contempt proceedings.
The matter was adjourned to 21st August 2025 for further hearing.
Legal observers note that this ruling reaffirms a fundamental principle that the judiciary will not tolerate contempt, nor will it allow its authority to be undermined, adding that ECWA’s actions raises profound questions about integrity and accountability.
