British TikTok influencer Brooke George charged with murder in Dubai, faces firing squad
A 23-year-old British TikTok influencer, Brooke George, is facing the prospect of execution by a firing squad in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after being charged with the murder of her boyfriend.
Ms. George was arrested by Dubai police in the early hours of Monday following allegations that she fatally stabbed her partner—whose identity has not yet been released by authorities—in what investigators have described as a premeditated attack.
The social media personality, widely known for her lip-syncing videos and makeup tutorials, is currently being held at the Bur Dubai Police Station. Under UAE law, a conviction for premeditated murder carries the death penalty, typically carried out by a firing squad.
Allegations of abuse and mistreatment in custody
The case has drawn sharp criticism from human rights advocacy groups. Detained in Dubai, an organization tracking legal issues in the UAE, has called for Ms. George’s immediate release on bail. The group leveled serious allegations against Dubai authorities, claiming the influencer was forcefully stripped naked in custody in the presence of male officers without a female officer present.

Furthermore, the advocacy group is urging Emirati authorities to treat the incident as a case of domestic violence rather than premeditated murder. They claim the deceased boyfriend had become “increasingly controlling and abusive” and had trapped Ms. George in Dubai by seizing her passport.
Radha Stirling, Chief Executive of Detained in Dubai, stated that Ms. George—who was on her second visit to the UAE—acted entirely out of survival.
“She feared for her life and, reaching for a kitchen knife within her grasp, acted in self-defense,” Stirling said.
Family claims self-defense
The suspect’s mother, Thereza George, released a statement insisting that the relationship between her daughter and the deceased had taken a dark turn prior to the tragedy.
“After Brooke returned to Dubai for the second time, the dynamic between them had clearly changed. The day before the incident, she did not seem like herself. She was quieter and not her usual happy, cheerful self, but she did not tell me why,” the mother stated.
Recalling her conversation with her daughter immediately after the fatal altercation, she added: “That evening they went to a bar in Dubai. When I spoke to Brooke right after the incident, she was absolutely terrified. I have never seen my daughter so frightened in my life. She was crying uncontrollably. I could see that one of her eyes was badly swollen and was beginning to close.”
The incident has caught the attention of British diplomatic channels. The United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed it is aware of the situation and is currently providing consular assistance to a British woman detained in the UAE and her family.
As the legal proceedings begin, the case is expected to spotlight the UAE’s stringent judicial system and its handling of domestic abuse claims involving foreign nationals.
