Music legend Lionel Richie rushed off stage after falling ill mid-performance
Global music icon Lionel Richie left fans in shock and concern after he was forced to abruptly cut short his concert in St. Paul, Minnesota, after falling ill live on stage.
The legendary singer was performing his upbeat hit track, “Dancing on the Ceiling,” at the Grand Casino Arena when he reportedly began experiencing severe dizziness.
The show couldn’t go on
Videos circulating across social media platforms show the 77-year-old veteran performer visibly struggling and uncomfortable. Demonstrating his trademark professionalism, Richie attempted to push through the discomfort, eventually sitting down on the stage floor to regain his composure.
Determined to keep the show going for his adoring audience, Richie transitioned to the piano to deliver a rendition of the classic ballad, “Three Times a Lady.” However, the illness proved too much to handle, and the pop icon unexpectedly walked off the stage moments later.

His long-time saxophonist, Dino Soldo, subsequently took to the microphone to inform the stunned crowd that Richie was too unwell to continue and that the show was officially over.

Tour status hanging in the balance
The ill-fated St. Paul concert was highly anticipated as the opening night of Richie’s major U.S. tour alongside the legendary band, Earth, Wind & Fire. The extensive tour is scheduled to hit 26 cities across the United States, running through mid-August.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Lionel Richie nor his management team has released an official medical update regarding the specific cause of his sudden illness. It remains unclear if the subsequent tour dates will be postponed or canceled.
