Tukur Babangida, Maizare to lead overhauled Kano Sports Commission, as Kano Pillars get new management
Kano State’s Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved sweeping appointments to the Kano State Sports Commission and the Management Board of Kano Pillars Football Club.
The restructuring places veteran administrator Alhaji Tukur Babangida at the helm of the Kano State Sports Commission as chairman, while Bashir Maizare has been tapped to serve as the commission’s secretary.
The official announcement was made public in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Babangida and Maizare will lead a diverse, newly constituted Sports Commission board designed to bring wide-ranging representation to the state’s athletic sector. Other newly appointed board members include Alhaji Balarabe Surajo (Wamban Karaye) — representing the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON); Sunusi Ismail — representing persons with disabilities; Sani Musa Danja — special adviser on youth affairs; Ibrahim Abba and Auwal Surajo.
Pillars board restructured, Ahmed Musa named ambassador
Alongside the commission’s leadership, Governor Yusuf also reconstituted the Management Board of the state’s flagship football club, Kano Pillars FC. Ahmad Musbahu takes over as the new chairman of the club’s board.

In a notable addition, former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has been named as the state’s Sports Ambassador.
The rest of the heavily fortified Pillars board includes Abba Galadima, Sharu Inuwa Rabiu, Fatima Ibrahim Abubakar, Bashir Idris, Salisu Muhammad Kosawa, Murtala Umar, Kabiru Usman, Senior Special Assistant on Sports Engr. Usman Mustapha K/Na’isa, and key fan base representatives Abubakar Isa Dandago (former fans club chairman) and Jamilu Tijani Yamadawa (current fans club chairman).
Governor Yusuf charged the newly minted leaders to immediately deploy their collective expertise to identify and nurture grassroots talent while restoring the competitive glory of Kano Pillars FC.
The governor expressed absolute confidence that the Babangida-led Sports Commission and the new Pillars board would usher in a defining era of professionalism, excellence, and silverware for Kano State.
