Emir of Ilorin hails elevation of Kwara AG, three other Ilorin lawyers to SAN rank
The Emir of Ilorin and chairman of the Kwara State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, CFR, has extended his congratulations to four legal practitioners from the Ilorin Emirate elevated to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
The announcement follows the conclusion of the 174th Plenary Session of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun. A total of 68 legal practitioners across the country were approved for the conferment of the inner bar status.
Among the successful candidates on the 2026 SAN list are four indigenes of the Ilorin Emirate:
Sulyman Ibrahim, SAN-designate — Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Kwara State; Mas’ud Mobolaji Alabelewe, SAN-designate; Mohammed Abiodun Adelodun, SAN-designate, and Afees Hassan Adebayo, SAN-designate.

In a statement issued by his spokesman, Dr. Abdulazeez Arowona, the monarch described the elevation of the four lawyers as a reflection of their dedication to the bar, legal scholarship, and the delivery of justice.
”The emergence of four Ilorin Emirate indigenes on the 2026 SAN list is a source of pride to the Emirate and Kwara State at large. It stands as evidence of our enduring tradition of scholarship, integrity, and excellence in the legal profession.”
The monarch also praised the LPPC for maintaining rigorous standards and meritocracy in shortlisting candidates for the country’s highest legal rank.
According to directives from the LPPC, all 68 designees are scheduled to undergo a mandatory pre-swearing-in induction program before their official admission into the Inner Bar.
The formal swearing-in ceremony for the new Senior Advocates of Nigeria will take place on Monday, October 12, 2026.
Charged with maintaining the standards of the legal profession, the newly designated SANs were urged by the traditional ruler to serve as role models to younger lawyers and continue upholding strict professional ethics in their service to the nation.
