Kano’s Sagir Sulaiman joins inner bar as LPPC confers silk on new lawyers

Kano-based legal practitioner Sagir Sulaiman has emerged as the sole representative from Kano State elevated to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) in the latest conferment exercise by the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC).

The LPPC, chaired by the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, approved the elevation of 69 legal practitioners—comprising 68 advocates and 1 academic—during its 174th Plenary Session in Abuja.

The announcement was confirmed in a official statement released by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Mr. Kabir Akanbi.

A lone beacon for Kano’s legal bar

Out of dozens of candidates across northern Nigeria shortlisted for the inner bar, Sulaiman’s elevation stands as a notable milestone for Kano State’s legal fraternity, making him the only practitioner operating out of the state to clinch the coveted silk title in this exercise.

The rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria is the highest honor bestowed on members of the legal profession in Nigeria, awarded as a mark of professional distinction to lawyers who have demonstrated exceptional excellence either in courtroom advocacy or in academic legal scholarship.

LPPC issues warning against congratulatory ads

In line with long-standing ethics, the LPPC strictly cautioned all newly elevated legal practitioners against issuing or sponsoring public advertisements, celebratory goodwill messages, or media notices regarding their appointment.

The committee warned that any breach of these guidelines would attract severe sanctions, up to the potential withdrawal or suspension of the conferment.
