NBA KANO: New EXCO sworn in as Fari hands over to Ammani after historic secretariat completion
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kano Branch, entered a new era on Tuesday as a freshly elected Executive Council (EXCO), led by its new chairman, Sani Ammani, was officially sworn into office.
The transition ceremony took place during the branch’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Kano, marking the formal end of the Usman Umar Fari-led administration and the dawn of a new leadership chapter for the legal community in the state.
A Legacy of Achievements: Fari hands over the gavel
In his valedictory address, the outgoing chairman, Usman Umar Fari, reflected on the milestones achieved during his tenure. Highlighting a historic breakthrough, Fari revealed that his administration successfully completed the building of the long-awaited NBA Kano Branch Secretariat—a monumental feat that had stalled for almost ten years and eluded five successive executive councils. He said his administration commenced the second floor of the building from scratch and handed it at about 90% completion, with work still ongoing even after his departure.

Beyond structural development, Fari detailed several key achievements that defined his administration’s commitment to member welfare and institutional growth, including professional enrichment through the introduction of specialized monthly lectures where experts from various fields educated members on crucial lifestyle and personal growth topics, including health, investment strategies, and proper diet.

Fari noted that the administration’s timely press statements consistently spurred relevant authorities into action.
There was also enhanced member welfare where he pointed to a substantial increase in the financial support packages and welfare benefits allocated to branch members in times of need.
He mentioned the introduction of customized NBA Kano vehicle stickers exclusively for branch members to boost identity and professional pride.
In the area of judicial reforms, he said there was a strong collaborative engagement with the judiciary to enhance the administration of justice. Notably, the outgoing administration proposed a landmark practice direction aimed at improving efficiency in the recovery of premises cases.
