Pastor Adeboye reacts to viral AI image depicting him as ‘Alhaji’
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), recently addressed a viral AI-generated image that depicted him as an Alhaji.
Alhaji is a title given to a man who has completed the Hajj pilgrimage in Islam.
The image circulated widely on social media in late December 2024, showing Adeboye dressed in Islamic attire and appearing to be in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
This portrayal sparked reactions online, with many expressing confusion due to his prominent role as a Christian leader.
During the first Holy Ghost Night of 2025, held on January 4, Adeboye acknowledged the image with humor. He remarked to his congregation, “I’m sure many of you saw that picture showing me as an alhaji,” which elicited laughter from those present.

His light-hearted approach to the Alhaji issue indicated an attempt to distance himself from the misleading representation while also addressing the seriousness of misinformation and mockery prevalent on social media.
In addition to discussing the AI-generated image depicting him as Alhaji, Adeboye warned about the consequences for those who mock or spread falsehoods. He predicted that many mockers would not survive the year but emphasized that God’s desire is for sinners to repent rather than perish. This statement reflects his pastoral concern for spiritual well-being amidst societal challenges.
Adeboye also shared prophecies regarding global issues and Nigeria’s future during this event. He called for prayers for peace amid escalating global conflicts and prophesied significant events for 2025, including an unprecedented earthquake. Despite these warnings, he reassured his audience that God’s purpose remains steadfast and that brighter days are ahead.
Through this address, Pastor Adeboye effectively combined humor with serious reflections on faith and societal issues, reaffirming his commitment to guiding his congregation through challenging times while addressing misconceptions about his identity.
