484 Nigerian pilgrims affected by fire incident in Saudi Hotel
The Imaratus Sanan Hotel in the Sharamansur area of Mecca, Saudi Arabia, which was accommodating over 480 Nigerian pilgrims for the 2025 Hajj, experienced a fire incident on Saturday.
The fire occurred around 12:00 noon (KSA time).
The pilgrims were not present at the hotel at the time of the fire, as they had departed earlier for Mina to participate in the symbolic stoning ritual, a central rite of the Hajj pilgrimage.
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) confirmed the incident and reported that no lives were lost.
The swift response of the Saudi fire services and hotel staff helped contain the blaze and prevent any casualties.
According to a statement signed by the Assistant Director, Information and Publications Division, Fatima Sanda Usara, for the Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, “Immediate emergency response by Saudi authorities and the hotel management helped to contain the fire swiftly and prevent it from spreading all over the building.

“The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that all 484 Nigerian pilgrims affected by a fire incident at their hotel on Shari Mansur Street in Makkah are safe and accounted for.”
NAHCON Chairman Abdullahi Usman promptly visited the site to assess the damage and ordered the immediate relocation of the affected pilgrims to alternative accommodations.
The affected pilgrims, numbering 484, were safely relocated to Mina after the incident, and arrangements for their resettlement were underway.
