Kaduna North rep, Bello El-Rufai, dumps APC for ADC
Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, the member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has officially defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
El-Rufai, who serves as the chairman of the House Committee on Banking Regulations, announced his resignation through a statement shared on his official X account on Thursday.
According to the lawmaker, his formal notification of resignation was presented at plenary by the Speaker of the 10th House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

“A few hours ago, the Rt. Hon. Speaker… announced my letter of resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) and my formal move to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) at plenary,” El-Rufai stated.
He further confirmed his intention to seek re-election under his new political platform, vowing to continue representing the interests of the people of Kaduna North.
El-Rufai is not moving alone. He revealed that he is joined in this transition by two other colleagues; Engr. Suleiman Richifa (representing Soba) and Umar Ajilo (representing Makarfi/Kudan).
“Together, we are building a home for progressive, people-focused service,” he added.
The lawmaker, who is the son of the former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, noted that the decision to leave the ruling party was a matter of principle. He emphasized that he remains guided by the legacy of his father and a commitment to quality representation.
“As a proud son of Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, I am guided by courage, conviction, and the unshakable belief that our people deserve the very best,” he said.
Despite the change in political affiliation, El-Rufai assured his constituents that his legislative and developmental agenda remains on track. He highlighted his upcoming Primary Health Care (PHC) initiative, which aims to equip local centres with essential medical supplies.
