Ulama coalition sounds alarm over political tension in Kano, warns against violence
The Coalition of Ulama and Islamic Organisations in Kano State has raised a red flag over the escalating political temperature in the state. In a strongly worded statement released on Wednesday, the religious body warned that the surge in inflammatory rhetoric and politically motivated skirmishes poses a significant threat to Kano’s long-standing peace and stability.
The coalition expressed deep concern regarding the “growing trend of insults, intimidation, and provocation” currently permeating the political landscape. They noted that such behavior is not only disturbing but fundamentally contradicts the values of mutual respect and harmony that the ancient city is known for.

The group denounced recent incidents linked to political gatherings that have led to unrest. The Ulama specifically cautioned young people against being manipulated as “tools for violence” by desperate political actors, and urged political leaders to shift away from mudslinging and instead embrace issue-based engagement.
The statement, signed by the coalition’s secretary, Dr. Saidu Ahmad Dukawa, emphasized that the interest of public peace must always supersede individual political ambitions.
“We urge all residents to remain calm and law-abiding. Politicians and their supporters must avoid any action capable of inciting the public or disrupting the social fabric of our state.”
The coalition concluded with a prayer for continued unity and tranquility in Kano, calling on all stakeholders to prioritize the safety and well-being of the citizenry as political activities intensify.
