Four trapped, three rescued as two-storey building collapses in Kano

Tragedy was narrowly averted on Friday morning when a two-storey building under construction on Sultan Road, Kano, collapsed, leaving four people trapped beneath the rubble.

As of the time of filing this report, first responders and volunteers have successfully rescued three victims, while frantic efforts are still underway to save the remaining trapped individual.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. Construction workers on-site reportedly noticed ominous signs of structural failure while working on the top floor, prompting a chaotic scramble for safety.

While most of the workers managed to escape unharmed, four individuals—including a security guard and a passing tricycle rider—were unfortunately caught in the sudden collapse.

Witness account

Speaking to reporters at the scene, one of the site workers, Shuaibu Yaro, recounted the terrifying moment the structure came down.

“We came to work here and had started taking sand upstairs when the site engineer noticed the signs of collapse,” Yaro said. “We rushed to safety, but unfortunately, three people were in front of the gate and one other person was trapped.”

“Three have been rescued, including the security guard and his friend, while one person remains trapped,” he added.

The three rescued victims sustained various degrees of injuries and were immediately rushed to the Sir Muhammadu Sanusi Hospital in Kano for urgent medical attention.

Emergency response teams and local residents are currently on the ground, working against the clock to excavate the debris and rescue the final victim.
