NBA TRANSFER: LeBron James reportedly set for stunning return to Cleveland Cavaliers
NBA icon LeBron James is officially off the free agency market, with reports emerging that the basketball legend is set for a sensational return to his home-state franchise, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The 41-year-old superstar became a free agent at the end of the 2025–26 NBA season after electing not to extend his eight-year stay with the Los Angeles Lakers.
According to his long-time agent, Rich Paul of Klutch Sports, James’ decision to exit Los Angeles was fueled entirely by a relentless desire to capture another NBA championship before hanging up his boots.
“LeBron knows the Lakers are building for the future, and he also wants to compete for championships,” Rich Paul told The Athletic. “We do want to evaluate what’s best for LeBron at this stage in his life and career. He wants to make every season he has left count.”

Unsurprisingly, the four-time NBA champion was the subject of intense offseason interest. Elite franchises like the Golden State Warriors, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Boston Celtics were all heavily linked with a move for the veteran forward. However, it appears the boy from Akron is heading back to where it all began.
The return of the king: A historic trilogy?
If the deal materializes, it will mark LeBron’s third stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers, a franchise with which his legacy is inextricably linked.
In 2003, he was drafted as the number one overall pick by his home-state team, quickly rising to global superstardom.
In 2010, he left Ohio for the Miami Heat, where he secured his first two NBA championships.
In 2014 to 2018, he returned for his second stint, culminating in the historic 2016 NBA Championship victory over the Golden State Warriors—delivering Cleveland its first-ever NBA title.
After leaving Ohio again in 2018, James went on to claim a fourth championship ring with the LA Lakers in 2020.
With four NBA MVP awards, four Finals MVP accolades, and three Olympic Gold medals to his name, LeBron James is universally debated alongside Michael Jordan as the greatest basketball player of all time. If these reports hold true, the final chapter of his legendary career will be written in the wine and gold of Cleveland.
