Kano NBA secures release of detained lawyer after high-level talks with police
The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Kano Branch, has officially confirmed the release of its member, Ahmad Tijjani Miko, following a high-level intervention by the Kano State Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
In a statement released by the NBA Kano branch chairman, Usman Umar Fari on Friday, the association expressed satisfaction with the swift response from the State Police Command, noting that the release comes after the Command opted to respect a valid order previously issued by the Kano State High Court.
A swift intervention
The resolution followed a direct line of communication between the NBA leadership and the state police hierarchy.

According to Chairman Fari, CP Bakori personally initiated contact with the NBA leadership upon learning of the situation, which led to an urgent meeting between the association’s representatives and the entire management team of the Kano State Police Command.
“The Commissioner of Police personally initiated a phone call to the NBA chairman. This paved the way for an immediate, high-level meeting between the NBA chairman and the entire management team of the Kano State Police Command,” the statement read.
Reinforcing the rule of law
The NBA commended CP Bakori for his decisive leadership, stating that the move has helped restore confidence in the relationship between the legal profession and law enforcement in the state.
“The NBA extends its sincere appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Kano State for intervening decisively once the gravity of the situation was brought to his attention,” Fari noted.
“By giving this matter the seriousness it deserved, the Commissioner has reinforced the essential principle that the rule of law must always prevail.”
The association emphasized that this “corrective action” serves as a vital step in fostering mutual respect between the Bar and the Police Force, ensuring that both institutions continue to operate within the bounds of the law.
Concluding the statement, the NBA reaffirmed its dedication to the protection of fundamental human rights. The association stated that it remains “fiercely committed” to safeguarding the rights of all citizens and expressed optimism regarding future cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the administration of justice across the state.
